It's All Down Hill From Here

Do you normally use this phrase to say something is going to be easy the rest of the way? Or do you use it to imply that things are going badly the rest of the way?

both- example a 26 year old guy puts on 80 pounds in 1 month while losing all his hair- "it's all down hill from here" could mean it's only gonna get worse or now life will be easier cause he doesn't have to comb or style hair or work out.

I also use it for both, but if I had to pick I would usually think it means something is going to get worse. Here are some examples to illustrate both uses: picture a creepy 20-something year old Hominidae-Cactaceae (that's human cactus for those non-Latin speakers. You can of course just go with Cactiums Primate.) This poor prickle tries tanning, sunglasses, laser hair removal, and even ponders lipo, but things never get better. It seems like things are only going downhill. But now picture this same chimp who has realized life has defeated him. He has found a large sharp object in the jungles of the Amazon and has concocted a sinister plot to take his own life. If he is successful, it's only going to be downhill for the rest of us.

I usually use it to mean something bad. But I have used it for both. What a crazy mixed up world we live in.
